street children

Children have always been in the streets and this fact has sunk into the minds of people as normality. This is not a situation only of the third world countries but also in the developed countries. These children who could either be in school or under care of someone are now viewed as things that should be in the gutter and any of them who try to get closer to the normal people is hurled away like a fly that brings shame. But have you ever wondered why these children are on the streets even after so many provisions in the children bill of rights have been formulated not to mention the Kenya’s 2003 free education policy. I approached one them in Meru town who reciprocated my greetings with a smile of enthusiasm probably wondering what I was up to. The sudden attention from the people around was a clear indication that it was out of the ordinary for a street boy to have a guest gentleman speak calmly to them. My aim was to know the main reason why the boys were there and to my surprise some lady street dwellers were among them. Talking to several of them the reason were so similar 1. Family mix-up 2 .orphaned 3. Parent torture Just few were out of ignorance but are there any legal actions being taken?
